Luka Lasareishvili was born in 1957 in Tbilisi, Georgia. He entered the Nikoladze Art College in Tbilisi in 1972, completing his Bachelor of Arts in 1976. In 1982, he earned an MA from the Georgian State Art Academy.
Lasareishvili stayed in Moscow from 1985 to 1988. In 1988, he moved to Paris for an artist-in-residence program, followed by a residency in 1989 at the Museum Fridericianum in Kassel, Germany, the historic home of the documenta exhibitions.
Following his residencies, Lasareishvili settled in Cologne, Germany, from 1990 to 2003. In 1997, he accepted a position as a visiting lecturer at the European Academy of Fine Arts in Trier, Germany. In 2003, Lasareishvili relocated to New York City, where he continues to live and work, adopting the professional name Luca Lazar.
